The trip takes longer due to road closure, when we arrive at Grove Ferry we meet a local birder named Dave who helps us find the right place to scan for the Egret, after some time spent on the mound it seems that the Egret has gone. while we stand here a Turtle Dove is heard, a scan of the trees to try to spot it, but it is well hidden. We take a walk round the reserve with Dave, the place is alive with Sedge, Reed, & Cettis warbler.
As we scan the scrape Jimmy picks out a Wood sand Piper for himself for a year tick, Brian & myself fail to get a view of it. Dave has left us by now, but as we walk back we bump into him again & he has a Turtle Dove in his scope, so we all get a great view of it.
A quick ride round to Stodmarsh is not productive. It's off to East Blean Woods to search for Lesser- spotted Woodpecker that Dave said we had a great chance of seeing one, a nice walk round the woods looking & listening but nothing doing today.
Now it's off to Oare Marsh as we head towards home, another Turtle Dove is seen here.also a year tick for me as we see 3 Whimbrel fly past. A lot of Yellow Wagtails are about, as we stand about we hear a funny noise, that turns out to be Marsh Frog's, this is a really funny sound that I had never heard like this before.
A drive down the path at Elmley is a good place for some photos.
Nothing new here but a very pleasant couple of hours spent here with the cameras out of the car windows getting some close ups.
