Scotland day 3 Ardnamurchan.Whinchat & Twite

Off early to get the ferry at Corran, the only trouble it is Sunday & the ferry only sails from 8.30 so we head back to Fort William to take the road around the other side of the Loch, it puts quite a few miles on the clock but it is a very nice drive & it's better than sitting about waiting for the ferry, on the way down this road we see a few Buzzards, we also pick out our first Greenshank of the year.
The fields are full of Redwing & Fieldfare so well worth the extra few miles. We get a real bonus when a Ringtail Hen harrier gives us a nice close fly past as it keeps low over a small lake.
The road down to the lighthouse at the bottom goes on for many miles & twists & turns but the heather that is plentiful is alive with Red Grouse & you just have to keep stopping for another photo of them. As we near the bottom Jimmy & myself pick up our first Wheatear year tick when we see plenty of them on a grass patch.
As we move on both Whinchat & Stonechat show on the wire fence & on top of the bushes 1 more tick in the Whinchat for all of us.
The boys pick up on the calling of Twite & it's not long before we have a great view of them a real bonus to get this close a view of them.
Heading back now the ferry is waiting for us so another £7.60 for a few minutes on board but we need to be birding somewhere else so it speeds it all up for us It seems I have my days mixed up it's the last day on the way back from Loch Garten that we went to Lochindorb,so I have just left it on this day.
The destination is Lochindorb this is a very pretty place to visit with many more Red Grouse to see.
Last year we saw 5 Osprey here but it's not to be this year with very little going on at all, but it's still  a lovely place to be.
